  8. The G3 CD Update places new firmware on certain CD-ROM drive mechanisms. This new firmware eliminates an issue of long delays occurring during wakeup from sleep. This wakeup problem has only been observed in certain types of Power Macintosh G3 models, with a certain model of CD-ROM drive.

  10. Important Information about the G3 CD Update 1.0

  12. The G3 CD Update 1.0 eliminates the cause of a problem observed in some G3 systems. In some G3 systems, if a CD is in the CD-ROM drive and the system is allowed to go to sleep, then there may be considerable delays at attempted wakeup.

  14. • What is G3 CD Update 1.0?
  15. G3 CD Update 1.0 is a utility which updates the firmware on the CD-ROM drive. This new firmware eliminates the problem of delays during attempted wakeup.

  17. • Who needs to install G3 CD Update 1.0?
  18. G3 systems with both internal Iomega Zip drives and have experienced long delays during wakeup should use G3 CD Update 1.0 to update the firmware of their CD-ROM drive. This utility will not resolve other issues.

  20. Installation Requirements

  22. Power Macintosh G3 with internal CD-ROM and internal Zip drive.

  24. Installing the G3 CD Update 1.0
  25.  
  26. To install the G3 CD Update 1.0, please follow these steps:

  28. 1. Save all open documents and close all applications before running G3 CD Update 1.0. The G3 CD Update 1.0 will shutdown the Macintosh as it finishes the firmware update.

  30. 2. If a CD-ROM disc is in the CD-ROM drive, unmount the volume and eject the disc. If a Zip disc is in Zip drive, unmount the volume and eject the disc.

  32. 3. Double click the application G3 CD Update 1.0.
  33.  
  34. 4. Click continue on the dialog box which appears.
  35.  
  36. 5. If the application is unable to update the firmware on your CD-ROM drive, you may have a system which is not affected by this problem. If you do experience problems and are not able to update the firmware using this utility, then you should contact your local authorized Apple dealer.

  38. 6. You may start your Macintosh at any time after it has automatically shutdown.
  39.  
  40. IMPORTANT: It is very important that you do not reset, shutdown, or remove power from your computer while G3 CD Update 1.0 is running. Resets, shutdowns, or power removal may cause damage to your CD-ROM drive.
